Looking back to move forward
Looking back to move forward
I’m not on social media much these days, but I’ve been loving the recent wave of people looking back at where they were 10 years ago.
There’s something powerful about zooming out like that. Reflecting.
2016 was a pretty pivotal year for me, even though I didn’t fully realize it at the time.
I was quietly laying the groundwork for so many things that would come later - personally and professionally.
That was the year I started seriously considering yoga teacher training. I remember telling a friend I was thinking about it but couldn’t quite commit.
When she asked what was holding me back, I gave the usual answers: time and money.
She paused and said, “Those are external factors - which are usually just excuses or limiting beliefs.”
Then she gently pushed me to get honest about what was really in the way.
And for me, it was the same thing it often is...
A really dumb belief that I wasn’t good enough.
When I look back at the 2016 version of myself, we’re wildly different - and somehow exactly the same.
Still capable. Still curious. Still getting in my own way from time to time.
But here’s what I know now that I didn’t fully grasp then: most growth doesn’t come from feeling ready or confident. It comes from being willing to move anyway.
So I’ll leave you with this—
What version of you are you looking back on right now?
And what might future-you be grateful that you chose to do anyway?
P.S. Keep an eye on your inbox.
We have a really special retreat dropping on 2/2 and I cannot wait to share it with you!
