Soft days

Soft days

The other day, I was rolling up my mat after yoga when the teacher looked at me and said, “I hope you have a soft day.”

I paused and thought, I do.

In fact, most of my days are soft.

I indulge in slow mornings more often than not. I intentionally avoid overscheduling myself so I don’t end up drained and resentful. And I batch most of my computer work onto Mondays and Thursdays so the rest of the week feels spacious and flexible—so I can choose what I want to do in real time.

I know that I’m incredibly privileged and very lucky to have built my life this way. But I also believe that softness—even small pockets of it—is available to all of us.

Especially in this season.

Winter is nature’s cue to slow down. To rest. To let the land—and our bodies—recover before the growth and momentum of spring.

So, friend, I hope you don’t get swept up in the grind of the holidays or the pressure to map out a thousand goals before January.

I hope you let yourself have more soft days.
